Summer Camp Rainey Mountain

Summer Camp at Camp Rainey Mountain was a blast. Here are a few photos. (The rain curse has passed on from Br. Lee to Br. Warren. - The days Br. Warren was at camp, it rained!)

After morning classes before lunch.

Sam was actually asleep, the others pretended for the picture above.

We hiked to a nearby waterfall. Here are some pictures.

Gabe (aka - The Ninja) ran up the hill, with perfect skill (as all ninjas do)

Relaxing at the end of the hike.

Group shot.

Andrew

In line for dinner. The food was pretty good for feeding about 1000 people at a time.

Flag lowering ceremony each night before dinner. Staff is all lined up. They marched in for breakfast and dinner. A bugler played while the flag was lowered during which a cannon was fired off from the other side of the lake.

Dinner, yum yum.

Our 5 mile (or so) hike to the "Big Rock" allowed for plenty of play time, and a few ninja sword fights.

Group photo, somewhat near the top of the mountain.

Here is Br. Lee standing on the edge of the Big Rock. You can see the camp lake in the background.

Gabe (aka Ninja) and Andrew at the top of Big Rock.

The 3 boys that went with Br. Dunaway and Br. Lee. There was already a large group of people there when we arrived.

Br. Dunaway

Sam at Shotgun Shooting Merit Badge.

Andrew at Shotgun Shooting Merit Badge. The second day of shooting they both did extremely well. Both qualified for the Shotgun Shooting Merit Badge.

Andrew loading his partners rifle.

Andrew taking aim. He qualified for the Rifle Merit Badge.

Gabe (aka Ninja) getting scored by the instructor.

Gabe (aka Ninja) taking aim. He qualified a day early for Archery Merit Badge.

Same and Gabe (aka Ninja) during rowing class.

One of the requirements was to sink the boat then flip it back over. Gabe (aka Ninja) here was riding the boat. They had a good time.

Kendail at Cinematography class.

Thursday was troop cook-out night. We had pizza! The boys thought they were going to have to make a fire, cook over it and everything. We didn't have enough room for all the cooking equipment, so we bought them pizza... they were surprised.

Here was out big camp fire. We played games for about 3 hours then went to bed.

Waiting to eat breakfast.

Ahhh, food.

Relax time. Even Ninjas take breaks every once in a while.

Andrew in Wood Carving class.

Gabe (akaNinja) with the football. It got some good use this week.

Tasty. Let's see... water, salt, pepper, lettuce, mayonnaise, napkin, and cookie

Yum yum said Br. Dunaway after making a bet with Andrew to take a picture with a staff member (below).

The bet was completed.

Ultimate Frisbee of Campers vs. Staff. Our troop pulled out our chairs and watched "Sam the Man" play. We cheared them on.

Sam could catch anything.

Sam made a touchdown during the game.

Summer camp was fun. The boys enjoyed it. The weather was nice (except when Br. Warren was there and it rained). Not as humid as Charleston. The boys accomplished a lot and earned serveral merit badges. Hopefully we will return again.
